Shimmering, pale and green peridot – often called the evening emerald is a gem commonly associated with spirituality and expression. Sometimes also referred to as olivine, it is found in colours ranging from pure green to yellowish green or brownish green with the prized colour being pure green . This uncommon green gem was highly prized by ancient admirers as it was often thought to be an emerald, which is one of the greatest compliments Peridot could ever receive.
Peridot is the national gem of Egypt, and the ancient Egyptians knew it as the gem of the sun. Jewellery historians are now convinced that some, if not all, of the emeralds that Cleopatra was famous for wearing were not actually emeralds but rather deep green Peridots. Peridot, with all these accolades has also been discovered in Meteorites that have crashed into our Earth from the far reaches of space!
Peridot is also the Birthstone of August.
