Topaz gets its name from the Old Greek name for the island of Topasos. Topaz is a gem that comes in multiple colours from peach, clear and blue, to shades of yellow and green. This gem is popular in jewellery. When faceted this gem is almost always irradiated and then heated to achieve the deep blue colours known as London topaz, Sky topaz and Swiss topaz but natural blue topaz can be found. Topaz is a symbol of love and affection, and has been said to be an aid to a person’s sweetness and disposition.
